Submissions to the Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences Education (JFCSE) must not have been published previously and cannot be under consideration by another publication while under review by JFCSE. E-mail notification that a manuscript has been received takes two to three weeks. The Associate editor performs an initial screening before a manuscript is sent out for peer review. At least two reviewers evaluate each manuscript on the basis of the type of manuscript, its content (especially its significance to FCS education), literature review, and writing style (clearly written, scholarly, organized, APA 7th edition).
Categories of Manuscripts Accepted by the JFCSE
Research. This is original research conducted by the authors including original research, literature reviews, conceptual and theoretical essays. Papers representing alternative modes of inquiry are encouraged. Manuscripts undergo a blind review process with at least two reviewers. (3500-4000 word limit)
Promising Practices. These manuscripts focus on future actions for FCS education practitioners. They are sent out for peer review. (2500-3000 word limit)
Conceptual Papers. Manuscripts submitted in this category should integrate literature, “offer an integrated framework, provide value-added, and highlight directions for future inquiry” (Gilson & Goldberg, 2015). These papers should provide novel ideas and insights in a “coherent and compelling way” (Journal of Consumer Research, 2023) Jaakkola (2020) provides a nice overview of four approaches to the preparation of conceptual articles. (4000 word limit)
Book Reviews. Individuals are invited to write a summary and critique of books selected by the editors. These are reviewed by the editors. (750 word limit)
